SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2005--Health Enhancement Products, Inc. (HEPI-OTCBB) announced that laboratory results of an analysis of its ProAlgaZyme(TM) product (PAZ) showed the presence of biological activity associated with Cholecystokinin and or Cholecystokinin like substances within its composition. It is believed that Cholecystokinin is a small proteinaceous hormone like substance that is released into the blood after food intake (by endocrine cells lining the small intestine) and causes appetite suppression. The presence of Cholecystokinin (CCK) and like substances may explain the manner in which ProAlgaZyme promotes an increase in average weight loss, and an improvement in body composition (reduction in body fat). These laboratory results were provided by the pharmacology division of MDS Pharma, an independent laboratory based in Taiwan.

The presence of CCK-like bioactivity, within ProAlgaZyme(TM), may explain the previous results of a preliminary clinical study where, over a six-week period, those involved in the study on average experienced increased weight loss, reduction in body fat, and improvement in glucose control, especially when compared to a placebo group. In this previous study, those subjects on the ProAlgaZyme(TM) product lost more than two times as much as those on the placebo product. The weight loss per subject averaged 1.50 pounds per week, for those taking the ProAlgaZyme(TM) product, and 0.78 pounds per week for those taking the placebo. Eight out of the ten subjects lost five pounds or more, and five individuals lost nine pounds or more, while three in the placebo group lost five or more pounds, but none in this group lost more than seven pounds. Two of the subjects taking ProAlgaZyme(TM) lost 16.8 and 28 pounds, respectively.

The company had previously commissioned a pre-clinical study on rats which showed, among other things, an average weight loss of 6.3% over a two week period. Once the rats were taken off the PAZ, they began to regain the weight. In addition to weight loss, there was a marked improvement (reduction) in body fat composition. The average unadjusted improvement for those on the ProAlgaZyme(TM) product was 1.78 percent, compared to an actual gain in body fat in the placebo group of 0.28 percent.
